Extracurricular Activities
Kingswood Academy strives to form the whole child. Our well-rounded curriculum includes art, music, band, physical education, and sports.
ART: A professional artist comes to the school once a week to present art classes to the 5th-8th grades. The concept being taught is reinforced through hands-on experiences with different artistic media. Art for Pre-K through 4th grade is integrated directly into the curriculum by the classroom teacher.
MUSIC: Through a weekly music class our 1st-8th grades gain a greater appreciation and more thorough knowledge of many different types of music. Music class includes singing, learning about composers, learning to read music and playing rhythm instruments. Grades 3 and 4 are being introduced to musical notation by learning how to play the recorder. Our music director presents two recitals a year: a Christmas Pageant then a Spring Concert held on Grandparents Day.

BAND: Kingswood has invited Band for Today, an on site band program, to come and instruct any students interested in developing their musical talents. The band instructor teaches 45-minute lessons once a week for students in the 4th through 8th grades. Rental of the desired instrument and lessons are contracted with Band for Today and are an independent fee. The students perform several times a year as a group for parents and invited guests.
GYM: The 1st-8th grades have gym every Tuesday and Thursday for 45 minutes.
SPORTS: Kingswood Academy is a member of the West DuPage Elementary School Association. This league includes several other local schools. For those students interested in joining a team sport there are a variety of sports to choose from such as co-ed soccer, boy’s basketball, girl’s basketball, and track.
