Faith in Our Future

Kingswood Academy has exciting news to share… We have a new home to call our own! We are proud to announce that after years of planning, research, discussion and prayer, we finally have a permanent home for our beloved school! This fall, our students, teachers, and families will celebrate the grand opening of Kingswood in our new facility located in the Marion Hills building in Darien. Kingswood will continue to educate students with award-winning academics, faith based education, and formation in the virtues. Our inspiring mission stays the same, only the building will change.

In order to make our dream a reality, Kingswood Academy will officially launch its first capital campaign to raise the funds necessary to make Marion Hills our own. This campaign, appropriately entitled Faith in Our Future, will require hard work, sacrifice, generosity and patience from each of us. But, the rewards from this fund drive will be immediate and long-lasting. If you would like more information about the Capital Campaign or want to learn how you can make a difference in shaping children’s lives, contact me at lgrundon@kingswoodacademy.org.

Celebrating in our new home

Mark your calendars for the Faith in Our Future Kick-Off Open House. This Champagne Reception will be hosted at our new facility located at 133 Plainfield Road (get directions to new address) in Darien on Sunday, August 26th from 2:00-5:00. Please join us as we celebrate our wonderful blessings and officially kick-off the Capital Campaign. (This reception is adults only, please.)

Proud of our students’ achievements

On March 3rd, thirteen Kingswood students traveled to Benedictine University to compete in the regional Science Olympiad. It was the team’s first time at the competition and they placed in five of the events! Sixteen middle schools and fifteen high schools were at the competition. Alexis Mikrut and Mary Rose Muscarello won two 4th place medals for their efforts in the Heredity event and the Write It-Do It event. Donovan Kelly and John Wascher won 4th place in the Meterorology event. Christina Peters and Amy Zasadzinski won 3rd place in the Science Word event. Harshita Reddy and Lindsay Zasadzinski won 4th place in the Metric Master event.

Band for Today held its annual band contest in March at St. John of the Cross in LaGrange. Students involved in instrumental band can choose to enter the contest. Each contestant performs in front of a judge while accompanied by a pianist. The students are scored on an individual scale, competing against themselves, not against the other participants. Kingswood students faired very well in the contest. Amy Zasadzinski and Brian Simon won first place awards. Patricia Peters and Chris Simon won second place and Lindsay Zasadzinski, Derek Morrison, Sam Potter, and Helena Fugiel all received a trophy for their perfect scores.

Andrea McCormack, Madelon Lolli, Amy Zasadzinski, Chris Simon, and Therese Davis represented Kingswood at the State Science Fair. Amy, Madelon, Andrea, and Therese came back with gold medals and Chris was awarded a silver medal. Andrea and Amy also were awarded a prize by the American Statistical Association for their use of statistics in their project.

Kingswood students have also been awarded for their talents on the track field. Madelon Lolli won 5th place in Shot and Discus. Amy Zasadzinski achieved a 3rd in the long jump and Theresa Skokna won 5th in the 400 meters. Mary Rose Muscarello won 5th in the 100 meter and 200 meter events. Not to be outdone by the girls, John Wascher won 5th in the 400 meters and Marcus Loffredo won 3rd in the 800 meters and 5th in the 1600 meter events. Nathan Kelly won 1st in the 110 meter hurdles, 2nd in the 100 meters, and 4th in the 200 and 400 meter events. John Skokna achieved a 1st place award in the 110 meter hurdles and 3rd in the 100 meters. Kingswood won 1st place in the 110 meter hurdles for the 7th and 8th grade boys, and we don’t even own a hurdle!
