A Message from the Principal,
Lisa Grundon
I am so pleased to be a part of this wonderful school! I came to Illinois in 2002, after 15 years of teaching in California elementary schools. I taught a variety of grade levels but always enjoyed teaching first grade because of my expertise in teaching reading and writing. I also taught for two years in Spain, in a school very similar to Kingswood Academy.
I fell in love with Kingswood the first time I set foot in the door. Kingswood’s special environment is due to the fact that we not only educate the children, but we help support the parents as well. I am pleased to be a part of a school that provides such great programs and speakers. Our Annual Family Conference, Mother’s Exchanges, and our PEP (Parent Enrichment Program) talks are structured events that offer families ideas and tools for every day use. We also organize social events that allow families to get to know each other in more informal settings. Kingswood is truly an inviting and nurturing environment for the entire family, not just our students.
We, at Kingswood, have exiting news to share…in the fall of 2007, we moved into our permanent home in Darien. Kingswood will continue to educate students with award-winning academics, faith based education and formation in the virtues. Our inspiring mission stays the same!
I welcome you to visit our wonderful school!
More About Miss Grundon
Miss Grundon completed her undergraduate work at the University of Santa Clara in California. She did graduate work for her teaching credential at U.C. Berkeley. She has a Masters in Education from the University of Navarre, Spain and another Masters in Educational Administration from San Francisco State University.
Families appreciate that the administration of the school is so accessible. In fact, it was one of the top six reasons that parents love Kingswood so much. Miss Grundon can be found at drop off and dismissal and mingling with parents in the hallways. She meets parents during parent-teachers conferences and makes herself available to parents for private meetings as a need arises.
Miss Grundon firmly believes in high expectations for our students. Her high expectations are noticeable in her assessment of students’ reading levels. She tests students from Kindergarten through 4th grade several times a year to evaluate students’ fluency and comprehension, ensuring that all of the Kingswood students meet or exceed the benchmarks. Her involvement is indicative of her love of teaching…she is not simply an administrator, but an educator as well!
