Parent testimonials

Here is what the parents of Kingswood Academy have to say about the school!

"We came to Kingswood looking for a school with strong Catholic training and academics. We found it all, plus a friendly and welcoming, almost homey, environment. My daughter made friends right away and I hope they will be lifelong friends."
- Maria Davis, Parent of a 7th grader

There are so many reasons why I love Kingswood Academy. The academic program is challenging and individual attention can be given to the students due to the small class size. The religion program teaches the Catholic faith, not some watered down version of Catholicism. I want to know that the values and beliefs we have at home are also carried over into the school day. I don't want my children thinking that religion is something we only talk about on Sunday or amongst the family. They should be able to talk, share, and live their faith all day long. Kingswood supports the family and promotes the faith through family activities, guest speakers, and other events all year long. There are not many schools like Kingswood, and I'm so happy that we found them.

My wife and I heard of Kingswood Academy through a friend of Tom Brown, one of the founding family members. I contacted Mr. Brown to discuss the school's mission and their approach to faith-based education with an emphasis on character development and what could be called the "classic" education focus. Although we lived in Naperville school district 204, a supposedly excellent school district, these needs are simply not met in that government school system. As a matter of fact, there is a policy to avoid any discussion of God or Jesus and a values neutral condition persists across all grades with moral relativism being the norm. At the time, our daughter was in 1st grade and we made it a priority to be in a position to send her to Kingswood starting her 2nd grade class. This preparation required us to relocate from our home in Naperville to a smaller residence in Plainfield in order to provide the financial resources necessary to enable us to send her and the rest of our children to Kingswood. As timing would "modify our schedule", we did not make the 2nd grade target date, but we are happy to have made the 3rd grade for her and K-grade for our son. We believe the aforementioned items such as faith-based, character development education sets Kingswood apart from all government school systems in our area and sadly even some parochial institutions. As pointed out in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, parents have a duty to provide for their children adequate education that enables them to grow as Christians, (CCC 2221-2229). We believe Kingswood helps us greatly in this effort. Kingswood is particularly special because parents and families not only interact in supporting roles but they indirectly through the board (also parents of students at Kingswood) have a profound effect on the development of the curriculum and overall focus of the school. This relationship is much more immediate than that of the relationship between any other school board I have been experienced with, governmental or parochial. The staff is also a special part of Kingswood as they are also committed to the same goals the parents are committed to which helps to reinforce the overall mission of the school... to help develop children educationally, morally and spiritually.

My husband and I presently have 4 children (ages 6-12) attending Kingswood Academy. This is our 3rd year at the school. Our oldest child graduated from Kingswood last year, and we feel the academic experience well prepared her for the high school workload. We live in Chicago and travel 17 miles one way. The reason we make this sacrifice is because we feel we have finally found a school that meets our children's spiritual, academic, social, and emotional needs.

We chose Kingswood because we believe very strongly that our children deserve the best education available. Kingswood Academy collaborates with us as parents because they not only stress strong academics but also incorporate character development throughout every aspect of classwork and student life. In addition, the teachers are first rate and totally dedicated to the students. From our first visit, they have demonstrated a level of dedication to the success of the students and the school which is nothing less than moving.

We looked into many schools in the Chicagoland area before choosing Kingswood. We chose Kingswood because their reading program is phonics-based, they emphasize writing skills, and they offer a good math program where students learn their basic math facts. All of these things give students a solid background for the future. But not only is Kingswood giving our daughter a strong "back-to-basics" education, but they are joining us in making sure she becomes an honest, responsible, kind person. From the great enthusiasm of the teachers, to the large number of parents giving their participation and support, you can feel the sense of community and spirit. Everyone within the school is working to give Kingswood students an intellectual and moral foundation that will last them a lifetime.
